There are many unanswered questions that remain about the Nintendo Switch, and they are questions Nintendo doesn’t intend to answer until 2017. However, more details are slowly appearing as interviews are held. The latest is about the future of the 3DS.
The Switch looks to be positioned as a replacement for both the Wii U and the 3DS going forward. It acts as a home console and a portable tablet device, so it makes sense to have it replace both last-gen devices. However, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed that the 3DS will have the company’s full support after the Switch launches. The Switch does not replace the 3DS and it will continue to have software released for it.
